Is it a bird? A plane? No, it's the leaked trailer for "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice."

Zack Snyder, director of the highly anticipated sequel to "Man of Steel," tweeted Wednesday that select Imax locations would screen the trailer on April 20. However, a leaked version surfaced on Thursday, prompting Snyder and Warner Bros. to release it ahead of its intended date.

The leak was widely disseminated across social media and comic book sites Friday, and prompted fanboys (and girls) to dissect every frame of the superhero vehicle, starring Ben Affleck as the Dark Knight and Henry Cavill reprising his role as The Man of Steel.

The leaked trailer was filmed in a movie theater using a handheld camera or cellphone and was uploaded to YouTube. The original video was deleted, but the video continues to make the rounds on other sites. The audio is in English, but the subtitles appear to be in Portuguese.

DC's rival Marvel faced a similar high-profile leak in October of last year. The trailer for "Avengers: Age of Ultron" appeared online a week ahead of its intended released during an episode of Marvel's TV show "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D".

Lucas Films avoided a potential leak and released the new trailer for "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" on Thursday at the Star Wars Celebration event in Anaheim, California.
