The cast of hit TV show "Friends" is to be reunited for a special two-hour episode, 12 years after the show aired its last episode which was watched by over 50 million American viewers.

The entire cast, including Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer, Matt LeBlanc and Matthew Perry – are to be reunited for a special episode to pay tribute to sitcom director James Burrows, who filmed 15 episodes of the show and recently filmed his 1,000 TV episode.

The reunion show is set to air on February 21 from 9-11 pm and will include the casts from his other shows as well, NBC said in a statement. Burrows' other shows include "Taxi", "Cheers", "Frasier" and "Will & Grace" among others.

When asked if the cast of Friends would be reprising their roles in the sitcom, NBC's Vice President of Editoral and Media relations, Stuart Levine, said "nothing (is) set at this point."

The sitcom was created by David Crane and Marta Kauffman was one of the most popular TV shows of all time, running for ten seasons (and 236 episodes) from 1994 to 2004, featuring the lives and loves of six friends living in New York.

The show attracted large TV audiences around the world and its series 10 finale was watched by 52.5 million viewers. Towards the end of the show when it had become a cultural phenomenon, each cast member was paid a reported $1 million per show. It is not known what amount cast members will be paid for the forthcoming reunion.
