If you're single and planning a trip to the car dealership, the type of vehicle you drive away in may determine your chances of finding that special someone.

According to a new survey of 2,000 men and women by Insure.com, women think the most attractive men tend to drive black Ford pickup trucks. The cost of being sexy is much steeper for women, with men answering that attractive women typically drive red BMW sports cars.

Following conventional wisdom, women should steer clear of the minivan, with men saying that ladies who drive green minivans are the least attractive. Women took it out on the mailman, answering that the least attractive men tend to drive mail trucks.

According to the study, 32 percent of women feel the most attractive men drive pickup trucks.

And with Ford ranking as the most attractive maker for males, the all-new F-150 would be a good pick for men on the market.

"The tag line for the new Ford F-150 is 'tougher, smarter and more capable,' which coincidentally would make a great Match.com profile," said Amy Danise, editorial director of Insure.com.

Sports cars came in second, with 27 percent of women ranking them as the cars that attractive men most often drive. If you're torn on color, go with black, silver or red—they were named the colors most frequently driven by good-looking men.

For men: SUVs

SUVs were another popular choice, with 16 percent of women saying they are driven by attractive men. When choosing a model, men could go for a Chevrolet or Porsche, which rounded out the top three makers associated with attractive men.

It's a bit costlier for women to own a highly ranked car, with 39 percent of men saying they picture attractive women behind the wheel of a sports car.

"Based on results, I'd recommend a red BMW Z4 for single women," Danise said. "Two seats signal 'no kids.' The fact that it's expensive means it's probably leased, which indicates you're not heavily into commitment. The convertible top says you're not worried about your hair."

With an MSRP starting at $48,950, according to Cars.com, the cost of owning a 2014 BMW Z4 runs at nearly twice the starting price of a new F-150.

For women: Sedans

Sedans ranked second, with 22 percent of male respondents saying they are driven by attractive women. With Mercedes-Benz coming in second as the most popular maker for women, consider a C-Class.

SUVs also came in as the third most popular style of car for females, with 20 percent of men saying they are driven by good-looking women. Porsche was named as one of the top makers for women, making the Cayenne a solid choice.
