(Foxboro, MA) – As the New England Patriots were crushing the Houston Texans on Monday night, some beery fans attending the game may have noticed something missing: the Samuel Adams Patriot Homebrew Smoked Porter. Actually, the last check-in at Gillette Stadium on Untappd was a few weeks ago.

BeerPulse confirmed with The Boston Beer Company on Monday that the company is putting a permanent end to the Patriot Homebrew Competition and onsite Samuel Adams Brewhouse® “for a variety of reasons.”

“We continue to have a great relationship with the owners and operators at Gillette Stadium, after all we’re both hometown favorites and we’re both partial to patriots,” says Public Relations Supervisor, Michelle Diamandis. “We’re happy to report that Sam Adams will continue to be sold at other stands throughout the stadium. We’ll certainly continue many of our other Boston-centric brews and programs as a nod to our hometown.”

Perhaps coincidentally (or not) the Samuel Adams Brewhouse® language was missing from the press release announcing this year’s winner.

The Patriot Homebrew Competition began in 2007 shortly after the company started the Longshot program.

An anonymous tip to BeerPulse contained a rumor that the decision was related to A-B InBev’s $1.2-billion sponsorship deal though that deal doesn’t give A-B exclusive rights at stadiums or during NFL broadcasts. The main benefit in that pact to A-B is the license to use the branding of the NFL and some NFL teams on A-B products and advertising.

  1. disgrace that InBarf is able to strong arm a smaller brewer and invade a great market like that with crap beer. I don’t care if it’s $10 a beer, it still sucks! but half the fans who go to games, esp patriots fans probably drink the swill anyway cause it’s cheaper and gets them hammahd
