Some stocks for a quick trade and some names for the long term amid the market turmoil

For investors struggling to navigate the volatile market amid the coronavirus crisis, Stifel came up with a couple lists of stock picks: short-term buying opportunities as well as recommendations for the long run. While the broad market has been in turmoil as the pandemic disrupted the global supply chains, some stocks are benefiting from the trend of social distancing and staying at home, according to Stifel. Video game company Activision Blizzard and e-commerce giant Amazon are benefiting from increased demand as an increasing number of people are quarantining or working from home, Stifel said. Activision is down only 2.8%, while Amazon is up 4% this year so far, both outperforming the market. Meanwhile, the outbreak also accelerated the personal and corporate transition to the cloud and digitization, boosting those companies that create data centers or host cloud storage, including Equinix, the firm said. Equinix is up nearly 2% this year. "The ecosystem within EQIX's data centers has become increasingly important and essential," Stifel analyst Erik Rasmussen said in a note. "We also believe EQIX is among the best positioned data center operators to weather negative economic impacts because of its Investment Grade balance sheet, relatively low leverage , strong liquidity, little near-term debt maturities." Additionally, Stifel believes the cybersecurity sector is broadly resilient as the coronavirus crisis likely created an uncertain environment for hackers to leverage and exploit. "The work from home movement is rapidly eroding what was left of belief in 'castle and moat' architectures," analyst Gur Talpaz said in a note, adding that CrowdStrike is the only true cloud-delivered workload security solution within the firm's coverage universe. Shares of CrowdStrike are up nearly 19% so far in 2020. Long-term shopping list Stifel also identified a number of stocks poised to rebound quickly and beat the broad market as soon as the coronavirus is contained. "In 6, 12, 18+ months, many investors will look back with regret at the names they wish they had bought during the current time frame," Stifel said. "With this in mind, our analysts have endeavored to peer into the future in an attempt to identify those companies that may be poised to outperform once the COVID-19 pandemic has subsided – a long-term shopping list if you will." Within the battered restaurant industry, Stifel said Darden Restaurants is an "standout at an attractive entry point," after tumbling nearly 50% this year. "Darden represents a best-in-class operator at a historically attractive valuation," analyst Chris O'Cull said. "The company has quickly ramped up efforts to increase its takeout and delivery volumes... [the company] remains in the best position possible to resume more normal operations after the crisis subsides." Another name for long-term investors is Adobe , which Stifel believes will quickly emerge from a disruption in global software spending. The company is down about 6% this year. "We believe the company's significant scale and track record of innovation will help maintain its leadership status in the customer experience market," analyst Tom Roderick said. Other long-term opportunities include Facebook , Peloton and Wendy's , according to Stifel.
